What Are The Common Applications Of Custom Made Lithium Ion Battery Packs
Lithium-ion has become the buzz-word in the power industry today.

Scientists first began exploring the use of lithium-ion chemistries in the 1970s, but it wasn’t until 1991 that the first commercial lithium-ion battery was introduced.

Sony Corporation takes the credit for doing so.

Since then, lithium ion battery manufacturers have made significant progress bringing in new chemistries, boosting energy densities and shrinking battery sizes. Not only this, considering their versatility, lithium-ion batteries are used across a broad range of industries and applications.

Here we discuss some of the common applications of Lithium-ion batteries.
The Structure of a Lithium Ion Battery
A lithium ion battery pack is usually a multi-cell composition composed of several batteries linked together.

Each cell has four major components: the first is a cathode or positive electrode which supplies the lithium-ions. The second is the anode or the negative electrode. Generally made of graphite, the anode stores the lithium ions and controls the flow of current through an external circuit.

The third is the liquid electrolyte that supports the transport of lithium ions between the cathode and anode. Finally, the lithium ion battery also has a separator that keeps the cathode and anode apart.

There are different variants of a lithium ion battery, with lithium cobalt, lithium manganese oxide, lithium iron phosphate, lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxide, lithium nickel cobalt aluminium oxide and lithium titanate being the popularly used chemistries.

Lithium-ion batteries have gained recognition for several reasons: a higher energy density, lower self discharge rate, low to minimum maintenance and compact sizes and lightweight designs.

Applications of a Lithium-Ion Battery

Given their many advantages, lithium-ion batteries have been widely used across varied industries.

The ones most of us are familiar with is the use of rechargeable lithium-ion batteries as power sources in mobile devices. These include our smartphones, tablets and laptops.

Rechargeable lithium-ion batteries also find application as emergency power backup options. Power outages in the middle of an operation can have serious consequences. For instance, medical equipment requires a consistent supply of power. Power loss could lead to device malfunction or data loss due to improper shutdown. As a power back up, lithium-ion batteries help keep the machine functioning or at least provide power enough for a proper shut down.

As a portable source of energy, rechargeable lithium ion batteries can also be used to power recreational vehicles and golf carts. Offering a decent lifespan and a good amount of energy on every charging cycle, you can be assured of reliable power whether you are considering a vacation in the wild or a golfing game with friends.

On a lot of marine vehicles too – yachts, tug boats and speed boats, lithium-ion batteries are replacing lead acid batteries and gasoline. The light weight profile of the battery can be a great advantage when out on the water. In addition to the uses mentioned above, there is an increasing use of li-ion batteries for solar power storage.

JB Battery, the leading China custom lithium ion battery pack manufacturer provides long-lasting batteries suitable for varied applications.
